Portugal 2-1 Croatia
Scotland 2-3 Poland

Following the disappointment of the Euros, Scotland started the Nations League in the top league. Steve Clarke brought in some new players as Ryan Gauld received his first call up in a decade, and Max Johnston, Ben Doak and Robby McCrorie were also called up.

Poland took an early lead after only eight minutes when Szymanski hit a long range shot from outside the box, that crept past Gunn and went in off the right hand post. Midway through the first half, Scotland thought they equalised when McTominay bundled a Robertson free kick into the net, but a VAR check showed that the ball hit McTominay's arm. Five minutes before half time, Christie played a ball to the back post for Dykes, but his shot hit the side netting. A couple of minutes later, a reckless tackle from Ralston gave Poland a penalty. Up stepped Lewandowski to send Gunn the wrong way and put Poland 2-0 up. Twenty seconds into the second half, Scotland pulled one back when Gilmour hit a low shot past the keeper when a loose ball in the box fell to him. With 14 minutes remaining Scotland got a deserved equaliser. Doak passed to Ralston in the box, and his cutback bas slotted into an empty net by McTominay. Scotland had chances to get a winner, but in the 95th minute another reckless tackle, this time by Hanley, gave an injury time penalty to Poland. Zalewski hit a low penalty into the bottom left corner that Gunn should have saved but didn't, to give Poland a 3-2 win in a game that Scotland should have won.
