Steve Clarke made nine changes for the Ivory Coast match, starting some fringe players. He also changed the formation to a 3-5-2.

Scotland made a much stronger start in this game, and seemed to have the spark that was missing from the Japan game. Hirst and Christie both had early chances. Robertson also got down the wing and Christie didn't get a good connection from his cross. Scotland's dominance didn't last long as with Scotland piling forward, they were caught on the break. A shot from Wahi hit the post and with Kelly rooted to the spot Pepe reacted fast and put the rebound into the back of the net. That turned the game, as Ivory Coast then dominated. Wahi had a long range shot land on the top of the net. Just after half an hour, McTominay had a shot saved by the keeper. Scotland Started to get back into the game before half time, but the Ivorians' defence was solid. In the second half, Souttar made a great block to prevent Wahi getting a second for the Ivorians. Midway through the second half, it should have been 2-0, but Oulai headed over the bar from a Pepe cross. Hirst then had two chances at the other end, with his header from a corner being saved. In the last five minutes, Scott Bain pulled off a great save from Diallo, diving to push his shot past the post. A few minutes later Adringa had Bain beaten, but his shot clipped the outside of the post. At the other end, Robertson crossed to the back post to Dykes, but it was cleared. It was a better performance than Japan, with players trying to get into the squad, but it still ended in a 1-0 defeat.
