Scotland went into the game with Gibraltar as overwelming favourites.  The bookmakers were giving odds of 1/100 for a Scotland win over a team with only 1 professional player.  Scotland made a slow start to the match, and they got a fright when Marshall had to punch an inswinging cross clear.  Scotland took the lead after 18 minutes.  Shaun Maloney was upended in the box by their keeper, and he converted the resulting penalty.  Scotland led for only a minute, when some poor defending led to Casciaro latching on to a through ball and hitting a low shot past Marshall, to give them their first competitive goal.  Scotland regained the lead 10 minutes later when some poor defending allowed Steven Fletcher to score a scrappy header that should have been saved.  Five minutes later, Scotland got their second penalty of the match when Naismith was barged over in the box.  Maloney converted the penalty which was a carbon copy of the first.  Six minutes before half time, Scotland scored their fourth.  Morrison passed to Anya down the wing, and he cut the ball back for Naismith to find the net.  The second half was fairly uneventful until 13 minutes from time, when Steven Fletcher got his second and Scotland's fifth.  Substitute Jordan Rhodes sent a cross to the back post where a downward header from Fletcher beat the keeper.  In the 90th minute, Bannan passed to Fletcher on the edge of the box, and he hit a low shot into the far corner to make it 6-1.  It was Fletcher's hat-trick, the first time in 46 years that a player had scored three or more for Scotland.
