In McLeish'd second match, Scotland travelled to Budapest for a friendly against Hungary. McGregor made a save from a free kick by Dzsudzsak. Six minutes before half time Scotland won a penalty when Ryan Fraser was bundled over just inside the box. Up stepped Charlie Mulgrew, but his penalty was saved, as the keeper dived to the right and palmed the ball away. At the start of the second half, Scotland took the lead. Fraser crossed a ball in from the right that was deflected to Matt Phillips, who knocked the ball past the keeper. On the hour mark McGregor tipped a shot over the bar from Varga. McGregor also made a low save from Szalai, moments before a flick from Szalai went just past the post. Scotland saw out the match to record McLeish's first win in his second spell as manager.
