After the 4-0 defeat by the Dutch, it was now six games without a win, and in these six games they had conceded 18 goals. This was after five straight wins, where they had only conceded 1 goal. Scotland had to stop this run, meaning this game became more important. After four minutes, a Christie shot was past the post, and a few minutes later McGinn put a great ball to the back post, but no-one could make use of it. Just after the half hour mark, a poor ball by Patterson was intercepted by Connor Bradley just in the Scotland box, and his curling shot took a defection off Hendry and beat Gunn to give Northern Ireland the lead. Ten minutes later Northern Ireland hit Scotland on the break, and a shot by Shay Charles went just past the post. Just before half time, McTominay shot just past the post. After a poor first half, Scotland improved in the second half. Just after the hour mark, a McGinn free kick was headed past the post by Cooper. With Ten minutes remaining, substitute Shankland had a shot blocked just infront of the goal. In the final minute, a cross from Armstrong was met by the head of Ferguson, but Peacock-Farrell tipped it over the bar. In injury time Tierney's ball into the box was met by the head of Shankland but he headed wide as Peacock-Farrell came to challenge him. It ended in a 1-0 defeat, which was a poor performance from a team lacking in confidence. Things were not looking good for Scotland in the Euros.
