Scotland 1-0 Slovenia

The qualifier at home to Slovenia was a must win game.  Anything less would see qualification hopes over.   Scotland were up for the game and almost took the lead in the first minute when Russell Martin had a shot saved from a Snodgrass corner.  A few minutes later, Snodgrass floated in another corner and this time Russell Martin headed it into the net, but the ref blew his whistle for a foul.  After 18 minutes, Slovenia broke away but Gordon stood up to block a shot from Bezjak.  Just before the half hour mark, James Morrison came close when his shot went just wide of the post.  10 minutes before half time Scotland should have taken the lead.  Robertson released Snodgrass down the left wing, and his cross was met at the back post by Leigh Griffiths, who with an open goal, hit the bar.  A minute later Griffiths hit the woodwork again.  A low ball from the right was met by Griffiths, who hit a low shot that came off the outside of the post.  From the corner, Morrison had a header cleared off the line.  Griffiths went off injured just after half time after taking a knee in the back off the keeper.  With 15 minutes remaining, substitute Anya was through on goal, but his shot was saved by the keeper. With two minutes remaining on the clock, Armstrong collected the ball in the Slovenia half and took it past opposing players, before he slotted the ball through to substitute Chris Martin just inside the box.  He turned and hit a low shot, that took a deflection past the keeper, and in off the post, to give Scotland a deserved 1-0 victory and keep their qualification hopes alive.  Next up England at Hampden.
