After going five games without a win, Scotland had a friendly away in Amsterdam. Scotland almost went ahead after 17 minutes when a cross by Gilmour was met by the head of Christie, and his header was touched onto the bar by Flekken. Ten minutes before half time, a cross by Christie was met by the foot of McGinn, and his shot went just over the bar. Five minutes later the Dutch took the lead when a great shot from outside the box by Tijjani Reijnders beat Gunn. At the start of the second half a low shot from Mempis Depay was saved by an outstretched hand of Gunn. A minute later a powerful shot from McGinn was saved, and when he crossed the rebound into the box, Christie headed just past the post. A couple of minutes later, a shot from Gilmour went just past the post. The Dutch then went up the other end, and Gunn pulled off a great save from a Gakpo shot. Just after the hour mark, a loose pass in the Dutch defence was intercepted by McTominay. He passed to Shankland, who was through on goal, only to hit the bar when the goal was gaping. Ten minutes later, Gakpo crossed into the box for Wijnaldum to head past Gunn and make it 2-0. A few minutes later A Ralston cross was headed past the post by McTominay. With six minutes remaining the Dutch got a third when an unmarked Weghorst headed a Veerman corner past Gunn. The Dutch rubbed salt into the wounds two minutes later when Malen was through on goal and lifted the ball over Gunn into the corner to make it 4-0. It was a harsh lesson for Scotland, but for the first 70 minutes, they looked the better team, only to collapse in the final 20 minutes.
