Scotland 3-1 Kazakhstan

Scotland went into their final group game wanting to secure third place and regain some pride after the thrashing in Kazakhstan. Just after the half hour mark, Ryan Christie had a curling shot from the edge of the box saved by the keeper. A couple of minutes later, Kazakhstan took the lead against the run of play. A great shot by Zainutdinov from outside the box flew past Marshall. A few minutes later Ryan Jack had a close range shot saved. At the start of the second half, Scotland won a free-kick on the edge of the box. The resulting shot by John McGinn was deflected past the keeper to make it 1-1. Scotland then had some great chances. Firstly Forrest shot over the bar before Naismith had two great chances go wide, after some great build up play. McGregor also had a shot diverted wide. Just after the hour mark, Scotland finally took the lead. Liam Palmer made a great run in behind the defence and played a low cross into the box. The cross was deflected high up into the air, and Naismith beat the keeper and defender to head into the net. In the final minute, Taylor played a low ball into the box for John McGinn to direct the ball past the keeper into the net, giving Scotland a deserved 3-1 win. It meant Scotland finished third in the group, having to rely on the play-offs via the Nations League.
