Scotland went into the England match feeling that they needed to get something from the match. Tierney was available, and Clarke made 4 changes to his starting 11, with Billy Gilmour making his first start.

After only 4 minutes, Che Adams had a shot blocked, following a cutback by Stephen O`Donnell down the right. After 11 minutes, John Stones rose above the Scotland defence to have his header come back off the post. Two minutes later, Mason Mount had a shot inside the six yard box go just past the post. On the half hour mark Tierney made a run down the left, before crossing across the goal to O`Donnell, who had his low volley saved by Pickford. Adams could olny head the rebound wide. Just inside the second half, Marshall had to made a low save to his right, to keep out a Mason Mount shot. Just before the hour mark Dykes had a shot blocked, which fell to Adams, but he could not get a proper shot off. Dykes then had a shot headed off the line by Reece James. With 12 minutes remaining, a cross from Robertson fell to Adams at the back post, but his shot was sliced wide. Right at the end there was a scramble in the Scotland box, but McGinn cleared the danger. Scotland gained a point, but there was some felt that they should have won, as they outplayed England for most of the match. On the same day Czech Republic drew 1-1 with Croatia, meaning that a victory over Croatia would see Scotland finish at least third, with a good chance of qualification for the knockout stages.
