Scotland went into the Georgia game missing four players due to injury and suspension. They were still confident though, as they knew that victory would mean a draw against Italy would be enough to qualify. Scotland played the match in their new claret third strip. Scotland made a poor start and after 16 minutes Mchedlidze headed in a corner from Menteshashvili to give Georgia the lead. After 34 minutes, Scotland were denied a certain penalty when ex Ger Khizanishvili fouled McFadden, but all penalty claims were waved away by the referee. The game was finished after 64 minutes when a low cross was put in by Kvirkvelia for Siradze to tap home and make the score 2-0. It ended Scotland’s run of six wins in a row.
