In the build up to the final group matches, Scotland had major injury problems in defence. Keeper Angus Gunn joined Andy Robertson, Kieran Tierney, and Aaron Hickey on the injured list. This meant that Zander Clark or Liam Kelly, who had only played 45 minutes each for Scotland would be in goal. It was Clark who got the nod. On top of that, Scotland would be travelling to a place referred to as "The Graveyard" as defeats away to Georgia in two previous Euro campaigns had killed Scotland's hopes of qualification.
With only 15 minutes on the clock, Georgia took the lead when Kvaratskhelia slid in and connected with a cross in from Kakabadze to beat Clark. Ten minutes later, Clark had to palm away a shot from Shengelia. Four minutes into the second half, Scotland equalised. A passing move finished with Kenny McLean passing to McTominay on the edge of the box, and he was able to dig out a low shot past the keeper. Scotland were level for only eight minutes when Kvaratskhelia got his and Georgia's second. He collected the ball out on the left hand wing before cutting inside the penalty area, and hitting a low shot through the defence and past Clark. Just after the hour mark, a Dykes header seemed goalbound but was clawed out by the keeper. In the second minute of injury time, Scotland got a deserved equaliser. Armstrong played a ball into the back post for substitute Lawrence Shankland to head past the keeper. In the eighth minute of injury time Clark had to pull off a save, and hold on to a point for Scotland, ending their run of defeats in Tbilisi.
