Before the friendly against the Faroes, Craig Levein had nine withdrawls from the squad. Christophe Berra, Chris Burke, Gary Caldwell, Graham Dorrans, Matt Gilks, Alan Hutton, James Morrison, Steven Naismith and Steven Whittaker pulled out. This meant that there were callups for Dundee Utd's David Goodwillie, Aston Villa's Barry Bannan, and Liverpool's Danny Wilson.
The Faroes gave Scotland a scare after 8 minutes when a free kick 35 yards out struck the bar. A few minutes later, Maloney found Commons at the back post, but he headed across the goal and just wide. On 24 minutes Fletcher forced a corner and from the resulting corner by Adam debutant Danny Wilson beat his marker to side foot past the keeper. Seven minutes later, Adam put a low cross into the middle for Commons to poke the ball past the keeper and double Scotland's lead. A couple of minutes later debutant Barry Bannan fired in a shot from 25 yards out that cracked off the post. Just before half time Bannan floated a ball in from the right and Wilson headed the ball back across goal for Jamie Mackie to get his first international goal and give Scotland a 3-0 lead at half time.Just into the second half a thunderous shot by Steven Crainey 25 yards out was excellently saved by Gunnar Nielsen. Ten minutes later Bannan heads a Commons cross just over the bar. Midway through the second half, Maloney spurns a great chance when he picks up a poor backpass and chips the ball just past the post. The match ended 3-0 and along with it being a confidence booster, it showed that there is some promise for Scotland in the future.
