Scotland 0-0 Portugal

With three defeats and 0 points on the table, Scotland were hoping their fortunes would change for the visit of Portugal and Ronaldo to Hampden.

Scotland had a great chance to take an early lead after only four minutes, when a Robertson cross met the head of McTominay right in front of goal, but he headed right at the keeper. After 20 minutes Christie also had a chance, but his shot was saved. Five minutes later a free kick from Mendes was saved from Gordon. Just before half time both Ronaldo and Palhinha put shots over the bar. At the start of the second half, an unmarked Ronaldo put a header over the bar when he should have at least hit the target. A few minutes later Conceição also wasted a great chance when he put the ball over the bar. With 16 minutes remaining, Morgan crossed to Adams at the back post, but instead of hitting the target, he headed back across the goal and McTominay failed to make proper contact with his right boot. With eight minutes remaining, Ronaldo shot just past the post from inside the box. A few minutes later Leão took on the Scotland defence and cut back for Bruno Fernandes, but his low shot was saved and scooped up by Gordon. In injury time Leão had a shot at the back post that looked goal bound, but Nicky Devlin threw his body in front of it to save Scotland. It ended 0-0 and gave Scotland their first point and clean sheet. Ronaldo stormed off at the end in a bad mood. This result meant going into the final two games, Scotland could still finish second in the group.
