Scotland 0-2 Czech Republic

In the lead up to Scotland's first match in the finals of a tournament in 23 years, it was being said that the match against Czech Republic at Hampden was a must win. The manager and team refused this. Bad news in team selection was that Kieran Tierney would miss the match as he had a knock.

After 15 minutes, Marshall had to make a low save to his right to prevent Schick from giving the Czechs the lead. Just after the half hour mark, Robertson, had a shot touched over the bar by the Czech keeper. A few minutes before the break, the Czechs took the lead. A Coufal cross was headed past Marshall by Schick. As soon as the second half started, Marshall had to make a double save. First from Schick, and then from Darida. A minute later, Jack Hendry hit the bar from a shot outside the box. The Czech keeper then had to claw away a deflected shot to stop Dykes knocking into the net. Hendry had an attempt deep in the Czech half that was blocked, leaving Scotland bare at the back, and the ball fell to Schick. He lobbed Marshall, who was way off his line, from the halfway line and made it 2-0. Just after the hour mark, Armstrong had a shot deflecte over the bar. From the resulting corner, Dykes had a low shot saved by the keeper's outstretched foot. Substitute Forrest also had a shot deflected over. In the final minute Marshall had to save from Krmencik. The final score meant that Scotland already had a steep hill to climb to have a chance of qualifying for the knock-out stages.
