For the Belarus match, Steve Clarke made some changes, but what surprised most people was that Che Adams was playing while Lyndon Dykes was not. It also did not seem like an attacking team.
After 15 minutes that selection was vindicated, when Adams put Scotland 1-0 up. Hendry passed the pall through to Adams on the edge of the box, who controlled the ball before hitting a low left foot shot past the keeper. The flag was raised for offside, but after a VAR check, the goal was awarded. Just before half time, Gannon-Doak had a shot saved by the keeper, but Scotland were not playing well. At the start of the second half, McGinn had a low shot saved by the keeper. Just before the hour mark, Scotland looked to have won a penalty after Che Adams was pulled down in the box. It went to VAR and after a long delay, Adams was adjudged to have handled the ball earlier in the move, meaning that it was no penalty. Just after play started, the unthinkable happened. Belarus ran up the other end and levelled the scores. This time VAR came to Scotland's rescue, when McTominay was adjudged to have been fouled earlier in the move. It was a warning to a Scotland side who were not playing well. Five minutes later, Che Adams had the ball in the back of the net but the flag was up for handball. After a VAR check, it was not a handball, but he was offside, therefore it was still 1-0. With six minutes remaining, Scotland finally got a second. An attacking move resulted in Robertson putting a cross into the box for McTominay, who controlled the ball and hit a low shot into the bottom right hand corner. Just as Scotland looked to be seeing out the game, Belarus scored in injury time, to put everyone on edge. Belarus attacked in the final two minutes, but Scotland came away with a 2-1 win. Although the points were what mattered, it seemed more like a defeat after such a poor performance. In the evening, Denmark defeated Greece 3-1 in Copenhagen, to confirm that Scotland were guaranteed at least 2nd place and a play-off.
