12 October 2024
Croatia 2-1 Scotland
Poland 1-3 Portugal

Going into the double header against Croatia and Portugal, Scotland had injury problems that included John McGinn, Scott McKenna, and Angus Gunn. That meant a recall for 41 year old Craig Gordon.

Scotland made a positive start and just after the half hour mark, Scotland took advantage of that. Doak ran down the right and put a ball into the box. Luka Susic took a swipe at the ball and made a mess of it, knocking it into Christie's path. He turned and took a shot at goal that was deflected in to give Scotland the lead. A few minutes later, Croatia were level. Gvardiol played a long pass to Perišić at the back post, and he cut it back for Matanović to hit a low shot past Gordon. In the second half Gordon made a save from a long range shot by Matanović, and then saved a shot by Modric. He also punched away a cross in by Perišić. Modric also had a shot go just wide. With 20 minutes remaining, Croatia went ahead. Perišić crossed to Sosa, who hit a low shot that was saved by Gordon, but the ball then fell to Kramarić who headed it in at the back post. With 13 minutes remaining, Christie was played through by McTominay, but he put his shot wide. Adams had a shot go just wide in the 90th minute, and then in the 94th minute Scotland looked to have equalised. McLean flicked the ball through to Adams with a back heel, and Jakić tackled Adams, but put the ball into his own net. There was a VAR check though and it showed Adams was offside. Another cruel ending for Scotland which left us with three defeats from three.
