Faroe Islands 0-1 Scotland
Israel 2-1 Moldova

Following on from the celebrations and the mentally and physically draining game against Israel, Scotland travelled to the Faroe Islands. Grant Hanley returned in defence, and Fraser and Christie also started.

After 20 minutes, McTominay had a shot blocked at the near post by the keeper. Two minutes later the Faroes almost took the lead when Gordon pulled off a double save from close range, as they got in behind the Scotland defence. A minute later, Nattestad headed Hendriksson's cross over the bar. Just after the hour mark, Gilmour shot just wide of the post. With 15 minutes remaining Gilmour was through on goal, but his low shot was blocked by the keeper. Two minutes later McGinn had a great chance when he headed a great cross from Fraser straight at the keeper. Gilmour then had another low shot go just past the post. With four minutes remaining, Patterson crossed the ball into the box, and the ball was diverted into the back of the net by Dykes, after coming off a defender's foot. The referee checked VAR for a handball by Dykes, but the referee deemed there to have been no handball, and Scotland went 1-0 up. For the remaining of the 90 minutes plus 7 added minutes, Scotland held on for a vital win, even though it was one of the poorest Scotland performances in years. Just three points stood between Scotland and the play-offs.
