Going into the 150th anniversary match against England, Scotland fans were confident that they could get a result against the Auld Enemy. At the same time probably more fans were interested in the Norway and Georgia match on at the same time, with a draw meaning qualification for Euro 2024.

England made a strong start, and Kyle Walker had a shot go just past the post after 25 minutes. Seven minutes later England took the lead. A great passing move ended with Rashford sliding the ball to Walker on the right and his shot was deflected past Gunn by Foden. Three minutes later England doubled their lead. A blunder by Robertson laid the ball on a plate for Bellingham to score from inside the box. Midway through the second half, Robertson linked up with McTominay and McGinn and played a low ball into the box that was deflected past Ramsdale by Harry Maguire for an own goal that gave Scotland a lifeline. A couple of minutes later, Robertson played a great ball to the head of McGinn, but the ball went over after coming off McGinn's shoulder. Gunn then made saves from Eze and then Bellingham. With nine minutes remaining, Bellingham played the ball through to Kane who slotted it past Gunn to make it 3-1. It was a poor performance from Scotland against a quality England team.

In Oslo it finished 2-1 to Norway meaning that Georgia were out of the running, but Scotland still needed two points to stop Norway.
