The home match against Norway was billed as a must win match for Scotland, if they were to have a chance of qualification. Scotland were still missing captain Barry Ferguson and Alan Hutton. Added to that list was suspended Stephen McManus and injured Kenny Miller.
Scotland started the match the stronger team, but they were weak in the final third. Norway on the other hand were dangerous on the break. Most of Scotland's attacks came through Maloney who looked a class above the rest. In the second half Burley substituted McFadden to be replaced by debutant Chris Iwelumo. Iwelumo made his mark on the game a few minutes later when a Naysmith cross found him free in the box. With an open goal gaping he side footed the ball past the post when it was easier to score. It was an absolutely shocking miss. With a few minutes left, Scotland survived a scare when a Carew shot went just over the bar. At the other end Maloney also had a shot go just over. Right at the death, a great low ball in from the right by Broadfoot was missed by both Steven Fletcher and Iwelumo by a matter of centimeters. It summed up the game, which was a dissapointing performance and put more pressure on Burley.
