The build up to Scotland's away match to Czech Republic was a circus act. After two Czech players tested positive for Coronavirus, the whole squad and back staff had to be quarantined. The Czech FA then tweeted that the match would not go ahead, to both UEFA and the SFA's bemusement. UEFA told the Czech FA that the match would go ahead. This meant that they had to call up a whole new squad, with only 2 capped players, the day before the match, and the former Sparta Prague manager took charge. This put the pressure on Scotland as they were now strong favourites, and anything less than a victory would be a failure.

After only 11 minutes, the Czechs took the lead. A through ball sliced open the Scotland defence, and Pesek put the ball past the out coming Marshall, to make it 1-0. The Czechs were not scared to shoot, and three minutes later, Marshall touched the ball past the post. Just before the half hour mark, Scotland equalised. Liam Palmer played a low ball into the box for Lyndon Dykes to rush in and divert the ball past the keeper into the net. Five minutes into the second half, Robertson made a run into the box from the left, and he was fouled. The referee awarded a penalty, and up stepped Ryan Christie to squeeze the ball in at the bottom right hand side. Midway through the second half, Pesek had a shot parried by Marshall, and with the goal gaping, Tecl shot wide. Scotland held on though for a nervy victory.
