The big news on the build up to the Belgium match was that Kenny Miller was retiring from international duty after 12 years, 69 caps and 18 goals. Gordon Strachan therefore had to find someone to take his place in the side and it was Leigh Griffiths who got the nod.
Belgium almost got off to a grest start when Fellaini headed just wide in the first ten minutes. Scotland's first real chance came after half an hour when Scott Brown hit a thunderous shot from outside the penalty area, that went just past the post. Five minutes later Belgium took the lead when De Bruyne recieved a pass from Fellaini out wide, and he pulled the ball back for Defour in the penalty area who slotted the ball past Marshall. Just past the hour mark, substitute Ikechi Anya made an impact in the Scotland team and he made a great run down the wing before he crossed for Maloney, who shot just over the bar. With less that ten minutes remaining, Marshall had to make a finger tip save over the bar from a De Bruyne free kick. Belgium made sure of the points when they made it 2-0 with two minutes remaining. Benteke played a defence splitting pass through to Mirallas, who timed his run well before slotting the ball past Marshall. That added some gloss to the scoreline, in a match where Scotland were always going to be second best against one of the best in the World.
