Following the Curacao match, Scotland travelled to USA and based themselves in Florida to acclimatise themselves to the high temperatures. They travelled north to just outside New York where they were playing Bolivia at the home of the New York Red Bulls. In this game Steve Clarke started with Adams and Shankland, and left McGinn on the bench.
Scotland started very strong, and after only five minutes they went 1-0 up. Robertson played a one-two with Christie, before crossing to the back post for Shankland to head in for his third goal in two games. After 20 minutes, Adams had a good shot go just past the post, but it was three minutes later that Scotland doubled their lead. Christie passed to Shankland in the box, and he layed it off for Scott McTominay, who hit a low shot past the keeper at the bottom left hand post. On the half hour mark, Hickey played a great ball down the right for Gannon-Doak to reach the byline. He put a low cross for Che Adams to knock it into the net and make it 3-0. Five minutes before half time, Gannon-Doak had a high shot palmed away by the keeper. A Ferguson corner was then headed on to the back post by Adams to Robertson, but he headed over when he should have made it 4-0. Just before half time, Gannon-Doak, made a great run from inside the Scotland half, outrunning the Bolivian players, before he passed to his left to Adams on the edge of the box. He was blocked just as he was about to shoot, but he then got in a great shot that went flying into the right hand corner, making it 4-0 at half time. On the hour mark, substitute Tierney played a great ball to Shankland at the near post, but he knocked it just wide. A few minutes before the end Hirst hit a low shot just past the far post, but the match ended 4-0 with 10 substitutions made in the second half. It was an impressive display against a team who just missed out in the play-offs, and also defeated Brazil in qualifying. It filled Scotland with confidence before the Haiti match, and also left Steve Clarke with a selection conundrum.
