Scotland travelled to the dreaded hill in the Faroes which was the location of the Svangaskard Stadion, where Scotland had drawn in their previous two visits to the Faroes. In the early stages of the game Scotland had chances to take the lead. The first was when ex-Partick keeper Mikkelsen, palmed away a Maloney free kick. Following that O'Connor had a strong shot tipped onto the post. On the half hour mark, Scotland took the lead when Maloney curled a free kick over the wall and into the keeper's right hand corner. Mikkelsen was left rooted to the spot. Five minutes later Hartley knocked the ball to Fletcher in the box, who crossed to O'Connor. O'Connor's header was parried by Mikkelsen, and O'Connor scored a tap-in at the second attempt. In the second half the Faroes piled on the pressure, and were unlucky not to score when a Jacobsen header came off the post and into Gordon's arms. Flotum was also through one-on-one with Gordon, only to hit the bar with two minutes remaining. Scotland recorded a 2-0 victory to end their hoodoo in the Faroes.
