Following the defeat to Denmark, Scotland made six changes for a match that they had to win. They got off to a great start after 14 minutes when Patterson made a great run into the Moldova half. He played a one-two with Nisbet before hitting a low shot that the keeper saved, but Dykes was there to knock in the loose ball. Tierney should have made it two 12 minutes later, but his header was saved. Robertson also had a great chance but his shot was skyed over the bar. In the second half, Hanley header over the bar from a Gilmour corner. On the hour mark Gilmour should have made it 2-0, when he played a one-two with Nisbet, before putting a low shot just past the post. Che Adams also had a shot diverted just wide of the post. With five minutes remaining, Christie had a great chance, but shot over from close range. Scotland saw out a 1-0 victory to move above Austria, who lost 5-2 in Israel.
