Veterans David Weir and Paul Hartley were recalled to the Scotland squad along with Lee McCulloch for the double header against Lithuania and Liechtenstein. One surprise was that Levein dropped McFadden from the starting lineup and had Miller up front alone. Lithuania almost took the lead after 18 minutes when the ref allowed play to go on after Weir was fouled. The ball fell for Mikoliunas who had his shot saved by McGregor. Barry Robson then had a long range shot parried by the keeper. Fletcher latched on to the rebound and passed to Naismith who went down in the penalty area. His pleas for a penalty were waved away by the ref. 10 minutes before half time, Fletcher floated a free kick into the penalty area for McManus to volley it just past the post. Just into the second half, a great passing move by Scotland was finished by Hutton crossing into the penalty area for Kenny Miller to head straight at the keeper. On the 58th minute, Fletcher found Hutton with a great crossfield pass. He in turn picked out Naismith in the middle, but his shot was straight at the keeper. With 10 minutes remaining Miller headed a Whittaker cross high over the bar for the match to end goalless. It was a promising performance by Scotland and also their first clean sheet on the road in 10 games, since the victory in Paris.
