Steve Clark called up a provisional 28 man squad for the Euros that would be used for the two friendlies against Gibraltar and Finland. Hickey, Patterson and Lewis Ferguson were out, and a freak accident in training ended Dykes' Euro hopes. This meant there was a worry for right back, and Anthony Ralston and Ross McCrorie were called up. This match was also a must win, as Scotland had gone seven games without a win.

Within the first ten minutes, Grant Hanley should have put Scotland ahead, when he had a free header in the box that bounced over the bar. A couple of minutes later, James Forrest shot wide. Ten minutes before half time Hanley had another header saved and five minutes later had another chance go wide. After dominating the first half but with little power up front, it was goalless at half time. A couple of minutes before the hour mark, Scotland finally took the lead. Robertson crossed to the back post, where Christie and Shankland looked to get in each others way, before Christie broke free and rifled the ball into the net. Although Scotland dominated the second half, it was not until the 85th minute that Scotland got their second. McGinn collected the ball on the edge of the box, before turning and playing a ball to the back, where substitute Che Adams volleyed it into the back of the net, to put some gloss on the scoreline. It was not a great performance, but a win and a clean sheet were good to see as that had not happened in eight games, since the 3-0 win in Cyprus.
