When Craig Levein named his first Scotland squad, the big news was that exiled players Kris Boyd and Lee McCulloch had been included. Allan McGregor was due to be named in the squad but an injury sustained during an incident in Glasgow ruled him out.

The Czechs started the brighter side having numerous chances but failed to trouble Gordon. Midway through the first half Gordon prevented Sverkos after a mistake by Fletcher. Following this Dorrans made a goalline clearence. Just on half time Robson curled a free kick round the wall for the Czech keeper to touch it past the post. Early in the second half Gordon touched a Sverkos shot over the bar. After an hour the tide turned. Wallace sent a cross in from the left that was headed down by Robson at the back post for Scott Brown to drive home and put Scotland ahead. Following the goal, Kris Boyd's international excile was ended and he came on to a welcome reception. Scotland were now on top as Boyd put the ball in the net but was flagged offside. Right at the end, Drobny made a great save to deny Steven Whittaker his first international goal. But one goal was enough to give Levein a winning start and give Scotland their first victory in a friendly at Hampden since 1996.
