In the first internationals since the Euros, Steve Clark left out David Marshall as he had fallen out of favour at Derby County. Scott McTominay and Stuart Armstrong were also missing through injury, while Kenny McLean returned after injury. Stephen O`Donnell could not travel to Copenhagen due to Covid restrictions. John McGinn and Nathan Patterson were also self-isolating.

After only 14 minutes, the Danes took the lead. Højbjerg played a long ball into the box, where Wass lost Tierney before heading past Gordon. 93 seconds later Denmark got a second. Maehle flicked the ball toDamsgaard before receiving the return pass and putting it through Gordon's legs. At this moment in time it looked like it could be a rout, but Scotland went in only 2-0 down at half time. Scotland improved in the second half, with Gilmour shooting just wide two minutes into the second half.  With ten minutes remaining, Ryan Fraser came close with a low shot from close range thatSchmeichel palmed round the post. With three minutes remaining, Gordon saved aHøjbjerg header to keep the score at 2-0. On the same night, both Israel and Austria won, to both overtake Scotland in the group.
